The Halloween Hoe-Down was a family friendly
event designed for children to have a safe place to Trick or Treat
in Richmond. Back in the 1940's, a Halloween festival was held
and attracted numerous community members to downtown Richmond.
In 2006, the Richmond Parks & Recreation Department restructured
their Boo Bash to be incorporated downtown with other outdoor
festivities. The Halloween Hoe-Down continues to be a great success
and a wonderful event for the whole community.
Activities include, but are not limited
to: Trick or Treat with Community Booths, Kids Activities, Stage
Shows, Craft Vendors, Hayrides, a Haunted House, Contests, and
Food Vendors. Some of the special events included a Pumpkin Carving
Contest , a Pie Bake Off Contest , a Dog Costume Contest, and
a Scare Crow Contest. The event was sponsored by the Richmond
Parks and Recreation. More information about the 2008 event can
be seen at http://parks.richmond.ky.us.
An interesting variety of carved
pumpkins were entered into the competition.
One of the most popular events of
the Halloween Hoe-Down was the dog costurme contest.
Of course, the high point of the
event was the distribution of toys, candy, books, etc. to the
children.
