Two members of the Delta Zeta Sorority, (l.to r.) Maggie Brunner and Lauren Simpson collected funds at the Kiwanis Roadblock for Kids
The Kiwanis Club of Richmond conducted it's annual Roadblock for Kids. This year the various participants raised slightly in excell of $1,000 which was donated to the City of Richmond Parks and Recreation Department. The city had decided to do away with this event due to a budget shortfall, so the Kiwanis Club of Richmond stepped in to become a major sponosr of the annual Richmond Halloween Hoe Down which will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 23.
The Richmond Kiwanis Club is partnering with the Richmond Parks and Recreation Department to help support the inflatables, the hayride,a banner for this event, and posters for schools.
Other items required for this event will be Port O Potties, gourds for Pumpkin Painting, generators for food vendors, a sound system for the DJ booth, additional candy, advertising, and postage.
Kiwanian and Key Club volunteers will assist with the Dog Costume Contest, Pumpkin Face painting, Halloween Bingo, Pumpkin Bucket Game and Ghost Bean Bag Toss.
Assisting with the 2010 Roadblock for Kids fundraiser were the Delta Zeta Sorority (a philanthropic sorority at Eastern Kentucky University), and the Model School Key Club. Both have been long time supporters to Kiwanis fundraisers and projects.
Also participating in the 2010 Roadblock for Kids fundraiser this year were five Eastern Kentucky University exchange students from the Liaoning University of Technology in Jinzhou, China.
The names of the young people who sorked the fundraiser may be found with their photographs.

Many members of the Eastern Kentucky University chapter of Delta Zeta Sorority have assisted in working throughout the day at the Kiwanis Roadblock for Kids. The sorority have assisted the Kiwanis Club of Richmond at past Kiwanis Roadblocks, at annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfasts, and at Kiwanis Golf Tournaments. As a means of thanking the Delta Zeta Sorority for their ongoing assistance Richmond Kiwanians have sponsored a DZ web site in association with their web site and provided a $500 contribution to the Delta Zeta national philanthropy of Better Hearing and Speech (which also happens to be the emphasis of the Kiwanis Kentucky-Tennessee District Foundation). The Foundation supports 15 national scholarships and gives grants each year to Gallaudet University and to the House Ear Institute. Gallaudet University is the only four-year accredited school for the deaf in the world. DZ has greatly assisted with the Gallaudet's dance troupe. Ruth Thomas, a former DZ Foundation President, left provisions in her will that allowed Gallaudet to build a new dance studio, which they named "The Delta Zeta Performing Arts Center." The House Ear Institute is a non-profit facility that specializes in the middle ear research. Surgeons come from all over the world to train here and no fees are charged. The DZ Foundation also has furnished a new parent's resource room at the House Ear Institute and it is named "'The Delta Zeta Parent' Resource Library."
