Many members of the Eastern Kentucky University chapter of Delta Zeta Sorority have assisted in working throughout the day at the Kiwanis Roadblock for Kids. The sorority have assisted the Kiwanis Club of Richmond at past Kiwanis Roadblocks, at annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfasts, and at Kiwanis Golf Tournaments. As a means of thanking the Delta Zeta Sorority for their ongoing assistance Richmond Kiwanians have sponsored a DZ web site in association with their web site and provided a $500 contribution to the Delta Zeta national philanthropy of Better Hearing and Speech (which also happens to be the emphasis of the Kiwanis Kentucky-Tennessee District Foundation). The Foundation supports 15 national scholarships and gives grants each year to Gallaudet University and to the House Ear Institute. Gallaudet University is the only four-year accredited school for the deaf in the world. DZ has greatly assisted with the Gallaudet's dance troupe. Ruth Thomas, a former DZ Foundation President, left provisions in her will that allowed Gallaudet to build a new dance studio, which they named "The Delta Zeta Performing Arts Center." The House Ear Institute is a non-profit facility that specializes in the middle ear research. Surgeons come from all over the world to train here and no fees are charged. The DZ Foundation also has furnished a new parent's resource room at the House Ear Institute and it is named "'The Delta Zeta Parent' Resource Library."

Teamwork makes for success

David Harkleroad, the roadblock chair, instruct the DZ girls on how they should work the roadblock.

It was but a short time before the DZ girls were outperforming their older Kiwanis counterparts.

Dedicated sorority girls are a successful formula for getting contributions
