Delta Zeta Foundation
The DZ Foundation is committed
to assisting our sorority's philanthropy of Better Hearing and
Speach.
Studies tell us that 25%
of all Americans will experience a significant hearing loss sometime
in their lives, so our sorority has selected a worthy significant
area of assistance.
The Delta Zeta Foundation
became a legally organized corporation on March 17, 1961.
The purpose of the Foundation
is to promote educational (scholarships) and charitable purposes
(speech and hearing).
The Foundation's first project
was scholarships and grants.
The Tax Reform Act of 1969
made all donations to the Foundation tax deductible, but not
to the sorority.
The Foundation now has 15
national scholarships.
The Foundation gives grants
each year to Gallaudet University, House Ear Institute, Delta
Zeta Historical Museum, and to Delta Zeta sororities for new
manuals and programs.
The Foundation is funded by
donations only.
DZ has been a faithful supporter
of Gallaudet University - the only four-year accredited school
for the deaf in the world.
DZ has greatly assisted with
the Gallaudet's dance troupe. Ruth Thomas, a former DZ Foundation
President, left provisions in her will that allowed Gallaudet
to build a new dance studio, which they named "The Delta
Zeta Performing Arts Center."
The House Ear Institute is
a non-profit facility that specializes in the middle ear research.
Surgeons come from all over the world to train here and no fees
are charged.
DZ Foundation furnished a
new parent's resource room at the House Ear Institute and it
is named "'The Delta Zeta Parent' Resource Library."
