Stephanie Konkel Performs Balloon Magic at the Kids Mall Madness

Stephanie Konkel Performs Balloon Magic making many animals, flowers, and sword balloons for the kids.. She attracted the longest line at the mall. Joan Kleine sat next to her distributing Kiwanis Coloring Books and Crayons to kids attending the event.

While some Kiwanians worked the Kiwanis table, others brought their children and grandchildren to take advantage of the events for the kids. Above is Wyatt Caniff and Nola Caniff, the son and daughter of Kiwanians Jessica and Jimmy Caniff at the petting zoo. Nola also enjoyed posing with the Disney characters.

Additional booths were set up 4-H and students from Madison Central High School, Madison Southern High School, and Model High School students who had a number of activities for the kids. And 4-H set up stands to sell some of their crafts.

Special thanks to Kiwanian Phillis Adams with the Children's Champions, for yearly organizing this exceptional event.

Elbert Hudson, Long-time Kiwanian, Died last month.

Elbert Hudson with Beth Thompson when she presented to him his 60 year membership pin. Elbert was born on July 6, 1923 and died on March 7, 2019. He was a long time educator who served as the Superientendent of Schools in Lee County. He served in the navy during World War 2. He was on the USS Morrison on the morning of 4 May, when when attacked by four Japanese suiciders planes. Those who successfully able to get off of the sinking ship were 179 officers and men, 108 of whom were injured, including Elbert who received a Purple Heart for his many shrapnel wounds that stayed with him for the rest of his life. He always considered himself fortunate because 152 of his shipmates, most of those stationed below decks, were lost.

District Key Club Convention

Lt. Governors for 2018 and 2019 Division 9 and 10 Kentucky-Tennessee Key Club District were presented to Kentucky-Tennessee District Key Club Convention

Joan Kleine, representing the Kiwanis Club of Richmond presented a $100 check to Nikki Stidham, a fifth grade student at Kirksville School, for her Madison County-wide Children's Champion winning poster. This poster will soon be on billboards in the community urging readers to be Children's Champions.

Also on hand was Wallace Campbell, representing the Kiwanis Club of Berea who presented a $100 check for art class supplies to Nikki's art teacher at Kirksville School.

A group shot which included the Madison County Judge Executive who declared March as Children's Champion Month in Madison County. Also on hand was Kiwanian Phillis Adams who annually organizes the Children's Champions events.
